A comme Animal is a strange, playful show that combines dance, mask, and puppetry. Freely inspired by the lectures of French philosopher Gilles Deleuze (1992-1995), it explores the themes of dreams and metamorphosis through the language of philosophy and symbolism. Between human and animal, between high heels and altered voices, the audience is immersed in a surreal universe that evokes the world of cartoons.

This poetic fable that draws inspiration from on storytelling and cinematography, takes a unique look at the passage of time, humanity’s fundamental dualities, and the fragility and impermanence of identity.

Marie-Pascale Bélanger is a multidisciplinary artist with degrees in visual arts and contemporary dance. After completing a master’s degree in dance at UQAM, she created the choreography for several shows that were presented in Canada and the United States. Fascinated by puppetry, she obtained a degree in graduate studies in contemporary puppet theatre at UQAM in 2019. With a visual aesthetic deliberately borrowed from comic strips and the Dada and Surrealist movements, she creates works in which the boundary between the real and the fantastic is blurred.
