In the Paul-Gérin-Lajoie-d’Outremont High School Gymnasium

Ten, fifth-grade students from Nouvelles Querbes Elementary School were introduced to the work of painter Marc Chagall during workshops led by Casteliers. Inspired by different Chagall works, the students created hand puppet characters. They modelled the heads, sewed the costumes, and painted the puppets – experimenting with the textures and colours of the chosen work. A manipulation and dramatization workshop enabled the students to create a short piece featuring their puppets with the painter’s artwork as a backdrop.

The exhibit showcases the puppets created, as well as reproductions of Chagall’s works and short videos of the short pieces featuring the students’ puppets.
