Who is really there?

In La vraie fausse conférence (The Real Fake Conference) everything is up for grabs: the venue, the audience’s expectations, Kantor’s “historic” chair, Peter Brook’s “empty” space, the table, the story itself. . . Every detail has the potential to shift, to be transformed, and to surprise.

Appearances, disappearances, substitutions of objects and bodies. . . A cup of coffee shared around a table provides the pretext for an endless game. On stage, a scene plays itself out and reinvents itself over and over, combining object theatre, performance, and poetic invention.

Who is there? Who is on stage? Who is in the audience? A playful, unpredictable, and thoroughly lively experience that challenges our perceptions and engages the audience, making them part of the show.

In 1979, eight artists met at the Festival Mondial des Théâtres de Marionnettes in Charleville-Mézières (France), where they created object theatre, a self-proclaimed genre that has since gained worldwide recognition! In 2017, the festival gave them carte blanche and they presented Une vraie fausse conférence (A Real Fake Conference). The group revisited the work in 2024, exploring their earlier discoveries with their audience. Beyond the theatrical form, it is also a celebration of 40 years of a lasting friendship.
