On the occasion of his visit to the 2023 Festival de Casteliers with his show Simple Machines, choreographer and founder of the Belgian company kwaad bloed Ugo Dehaes will visit the École supérieure de théâtre (UQAM) to talk with puppet theater professor Dinaïg Stall and present his unique approach to creating choreography with robots.
Ugo Dehaes, who has created performances for both adults and young audiences, founded his dance company, kwaad bloed, in 2000. His shows are inspired by the strange qualities of the human body and a certain fascination with science, and have been performed across Europe. In 2018, Ugo Dehaes decided to turn his attention to the “choreography of things,” and began working with homemade robots. This has led to several installations and performances at science, dance and puppetry festivals.

This talk is organized in collaboration with Festival de Casteliers. Simple machines is presented as part of a Québec-Flanders cooperation project supported by Québec’s ministère de la Culture et des Communications and the Flanders Département de la Jeunesse, de la Culture et des Médias.
