Éthienne, a carbon copy teen-aged boy with a dark and dirty history, cannot (or does not want to) describe his family’s origins rationally. He is convinced that his family is cursed and needs to figure out the all-powerful reason behind this life sentence in order to make some sense of it all. Even if he has to invent the whole story to explain his family’s woes… With just the right dose of humour, fantasy and, yes, a bit of cruelty, Théâtre de la Pire Espèce weaves an irresistible transgenerational story using common household items, paper and figurines.

Company

Since 1999, Théâtre de la Pire Espèce has been borrowing techniques from different disciplines such as puppetry, object theatre, clowning, cabaret and street theatre. Impertinent, festive and sometimes scholarly despite itself, the company’s approach to theatre combines raw materials with unbridled imagination, baroque plenitude with surgical precision. The company bypasses theatrical illusion, revisits stage conventions and the rules of dramatic narration, and seeks to establish a close connection with the audience.
