Crows are re-dreaming the world. Is the future all it’s cracked up to be? Caws & Effect is an epic tale of survival and extinction as told from a bird’s eye view. Working with two overhead projectors, Chloé Ziner and Jessica Gabriel present an environmental fable with shadow play, puppetry, masks and illustrations. The visual effects of their cinematic style are stunning. A modern fable, a tongue-in-cheek nature documentary, the animated dream of a sleeping bird. With its original music score, this bird’s eye view shadow theatre takes a critical yet luminous look at our modern world.
Caws & Effects premiered in 2014 and has won many awards since at festivals in Toronto, Vancouver, Winnipeg, London and Edmonton.

Company
Mind of a Snail is a shadow puppet duo based out of Vancouver. Since 2003, Chloé Ziner and Jessica Gabriel have been developing a multi-layered style of visual storytelling using overhead projectors as their main light source. Their performances combine originally crafted puppets, music, masks and eclectic experiments in lighting and timing. Their “Compost-Modern” approach explores both the ways in which what is natural and what is artificial are interconnected, and the blurry area in between. Mind of a Snail has performed at several theatre festivals including Summerworks (Toronto), Winterlab (Victoria) and Revolver (Vancouver), and has received many awards across Canada. This is the company’s first visit to Québec.
