A show without words

Festival opening show

Ici ou (pas) là is the last instalment of a triptych for young audiences and features the same lonely character with fears that change as he ages. The show is intended for children aged 8 years or older, and deals with the fear of not being able to find your place, either in your own body, which is constantly changing, or in the spaces around you. You are becoming a unique human being, of course, but at what price, and where?

Without using words, Laurent Fraunié has created a work that is somewhere between the burlesque and the sensitive, developing a language at the intersection of image, manipulation and the actor’s body. He uses dummies, choreography and projections in a scenographic mise en abyme, where the real brushes up against the imaginary. His character, encumbered by a body in constant flux, is dragged into a random space where it becomes the plaything of things around it.

Running time: 55 minutes
Techniques: dummies, fragments of puppets, objects and projections

This show will also be presented in Saguenay and Calgary. This tour is supported by the Canada Council for the Arts, the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec and the Consulat Général de France à Québec.

Company

Founded by Laurent Fraunié, Harry Holtzman and Babette Masson in 2005, the Label Brut collective manipulates and misappropriates objects and materials, creating a poetry of matter. Every performance uses a selection of objects to recreate the story’s present.

The collective takes a visual writing approach to theatre, using the story’s words and silences as materials, and shaping the story by improvising and testing, and through historical, cinematographic or personal references.

The Label Brut collective is associated with the Commune de Houssay in Mayenne, France. This is their second time at Festival de Casteliers, following the presentation of Mooooooooonstres and L’Enfer in 2015.
