About Skawanoti

Ahuntsic is one of Montréal’s historic neighbourhoods, but one in which very few traces of the past remain. Its river is steeped in history and the borough is the site of the last Indigenous village on the island of Montréal. But there’s nothing to indicate this. Skawanoti is the story of the First Nations along the Rivière des Prairies. Indigenous peoples have been made invisible, but I thought that just because we can’t be seen doesn’t mean we can’t be heard. —Jocelyn Sioui

Jocelyn Sioui invites you to listen to a ballad* as you walk along the Rivière des Prairies. Each stop along the footpath chronicles a moment in the history of Skawanoti. You may listen to each episode at your leisure and in any order, along the footpath or in the comfort of your own home.

This story complements the show Frétillant et Agile, presented during the Festival international de Casteliers, on Thursday, March 6, at 7 p.m.
