Cultural mediation activity, 10 years +

Part of the Café-causerie: Budding creations! event in person and live online.

Four theatre companies present their works-in-progress and answer questions from the public eager to learn more about the various stages involved in the development of a puppet show.

Soul Mates

Soul Mates is an interdisciplinary puppet trilogy without words: a comic strip, a performance and an inhabited installation. The three works inform each other and inhabit the same universe through their three distinct but interrelated forms. Each one takes a different point of view, multiplying the shifts of perception with a desire to prod the audience into freeing itself from any logical reasoning, and letting poetry and the symbolism of images take its place.

Without words

Techniques: full-body puppet and totemic installation
Target audience: all ages, 7 years and older

Magali Chouinard is a multidisciplinary artist who, since 2008, has been combining her visual arts practice with the language of puppetry. Her research is focused on presence, movement and interiority, achieved through the representation of the body and its multiple essences.

Magali Chouinard’s work is based on a visual and poetic dramaturgy. It takes form in black and white universes, where archetypal characters are used to play with scale, materials and duplication.
